Egypt, Japan mull ways to expand higher education, research co-operation

By: Gazette Staff

Egypt and Japan have agreed to strengthen co-operation in higher education and scientific research, particularly in advanced technological fields.

During a meeting in Cairo with Hiroshima University President Mitsuo Ouchi, Egypt’s Minister of Higher Education Abdelaziz Konsowa highlighted the importance of the partnership as a model for international academic co-operation.

The two sides welcomed the signing of a memorandum of understanding and an executive agreement for a dual master’s degree programme between the Egypt-Japan University of Science and Technology (E-JUST) and Hiroshima University, with plans for several Egyptian universities to join in the future.

The co-operation focuses on key areas such as semiconductor technology, engineering, and applied sciences, aiming to develop highly skilled graduates capable of competing globally.

Discussions during the meeting also focused on establishing joint research centres of excellence and expanding academic exchange programmes. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the agreements and further strengthening Egypt-Japan co-operation in higher education and innovation.
