Egypt allocates EGP 35 bln for construction and development projects in Sinai
The investments for North Sinai amount to almost EGP 25 billion, while a total of EGP 10 billion worth of investments have been allocated for South Sinai.
Almost 59 percent of the total funds allocated for the two governorates focus on human capital and development, while the other 41 percent are for infrastructure projects.
The investments' aim is to turn Sinai into a key development hub, especially at El Arish Port, and establish several development and urban centres for health and basic services.
Other investments allocated for the area also include improving road networks and transportation infrastructure to reduce isolation, facilitate the movement of goods and people, and integrate Sinai into national and regional supply chains.
Egypt prioritizes expansions in hospitals and primary care units in Sinai. The country is also developing water resources, seawater desalination, and wastewater treatment projects there to increase agricultural land. It is also building a station for transforming electricity.
The projects cover various regions in North and South of Sinai, including El Arish, Sheikh Zuweid, Baghdad, Bir El-Abd, Masa’id, Bahr El Baqar, and Rafah.
Planning Minister Ahmed Rostom's announcement of these projects coincides with Egypt's celebration of the 44th anniversary of the liberation of Sinai on 25 of April.
The projects also align with Egypt’s plans to transform North Sinai into a major integrated development hub for urban, industrial, commercial, agricultural, and touristic activities.
They also coincide with the government's recent announcement that it was seeking detailed proposals to cover feasibility, financing, and technical specifications to build a $1 billion hyperscale data centre and a large-scale green hydrogen project in Sinai.
